Rise with a rainbow umbrella When clouds darken the day And lightening turns to thunder Heard above the roaring cascade
The original poem Rainbow Umbrella centered on rising above fears and finding true love. I transformed the poem into a children’s story set in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest Cascades, more specifically Mount Rainier. Illustrator Charity Russell took the images I sent of the flora and fauna of the area and created beautiful illustrations to accompany the verses. Two friends explore both the real and magical, watching fairies don their slippers and catching freckles from the tiger lilies. In the end, they disappear into the mist surrounded by pearly everlasting. If you would like a glimpse of the wonders of the Cascades, this book is for you!
